The 14-Day Move for 20 Challenge
What is National Fitness Day?
National Fitness Day is the UK's largest annual celebration of physical activity and sport, led by ukactive — the not-for-profit organisation representing the health, fitness and leisure sector. Held every September, it unites millions of people across the country in a shared moment of movement.
The campaign is designed to encourage people of all abilities and backgrounds to get active, and to highlight the vital role that physical activity plays in supporting a healthy lifestyle. From leisure centres and gyms to workplaces, schools and communities — National Fitness Day reaches every corner of the UK.
But for organisations, National Fitness Day represents something far greater than a calendar date. It's a proven entry point for building lasting movement culture inside your business.

What is National Fitness Day?
National Fitness Day is the UK's largest annual celebration of physical activity, led by ukactive. Held every September, it encourages millions of people to get active and recognises the vital role movement plays in a healthy lifestyle. For organisations, it's the single biggest engagement moment of the year for employee wellbeing.
When is National Fitness Day 2026?
National Fitness Day 2026 takes place on 16th September 2026. The Total Active Hub 14-day Move for 20 Challenge launches on this date and runs until 30th September. Your Active Hub Foundation then remains live for a further 4 weeks.
Is it really free?
Yes — completely. The Foundation National Fitness Day programme includes the 14-day Move for 20 Challenge, team leaderboards, Active Hub access for every employee, wearable device integration, and the HR reporting dashboard, all at no cost to your organisation. Optional paid Accelerators (Active Rewards, Active Charity, Active Trees) are available for organisations that want to go further.
What activities count?
Any physical activity counts. The Move for 20 format simply requires 20 minutes of movement per day — walking, running, cycling, yoga, swimming, gym workouts, a lunchtime stroll, anything. There are no restrictions based on activity type or intensity, which is what makes the challenge genuinely inclusive for every employee.
Can remote and hybrid employees take part?
Yes — fully and equally. The platform is entirely digital and location-independent. Remote employees access the same app as office-based colleagues, track activity in the same way, and appear on the same leaderboards. Genuine hybrid inclusion is one of the core design principles of the programme.
How quickly can we get set up?
Most organisations go from registration to programme launch in 4–6 weeks. We handle the technical setup, employee onboarding materials, and platform configuration. Your HR team's time commitment is minimal — once you've registered interest, we take it from there.
What happens after the 14-day challenge?
After the challenge ends, your organisation's Active Hub Foundation remains live for a further 4 weeks — at no cost. This period allows employees to continue moving, helps establish longer-term habits, and gives your organisation the chance to experience the sustained value of the platform before deciding whether to continue.
What is the UK's Most Active Workplace Index?
At the end of the programme, ukactive and Total Active Hub will aggregate participation data and publish the UK's Most Active Workplace Index — ranking organisations across categories including Most Active Workplace, Highest Participation, Most Inclusive Organisation, and Most Active Sector. It's a powerful PR asset and a reason to push for high engagement across your workforce.
