How do you like to keep active? What activities do you enjoy the most?

I enjoy walking and discovering new places. It’s a very accessible activity and easy to fit in with daily life - even several short walks can quickly add up and make a real difference to fitness. I also love swimming, particularly in the sea, although that’s not quite as easy to do on a regular basis!

Why do you feel it is important to lead a physically active lifestyle?

I may not be the fittest person, but as I’ve got older - particularly while going through the menopause - I’ve become much more aware of the importance of looking after my health. Following a recent health scare in my family, I’m taking my wellbeing far more seriously. We only get one life, and I want to live it to the fullest and be here for as long as I can. Staying active supports both my physical and mental wellbeing, especially alongside a sedentary role.

How does the Active Hub platform support your physical movement?

Active Hub provides focus and accountability, which is exactly what I need. It’s very easy to sit at a desk for nine hours when you’re absorbed in work and deadlines, but the platform offers that extra encouragement and reminder to step away, move more and stay active.

How has participating in Active Hub events helped increase your engagement with other colleagues?

Taking part in Active Hub events has created a real sense of camaraderie within the team. I feel proud of what we achieve together and a sense of responsibility to contribute to each challenge. I’ve since spoken to other colleagues about Active Hub on stations and in HQ roles - and encouraged them to get involved - it’s a fantastic tool, especially for anyone who needs that extra push.

Has having the Active Hub in place via your employer enabled you to lead a more active lifestyle?

Absolutely. It comes back to accountability - having clear goals and challenges gives me something tangible to work towards and really helps me stay motivated.

What is your current active goal?

I’m currently taking part in the May 300-mile team challenge (five people per team, averaging approx. 100km each). Our team has completed the challenge, but personally I’m at 190km for the month. My goal is to reach 200km before the end of May - with five days left to achieve it.
